These dogs are good runners and jumpers. They are very fast and were bred primarily for the hunting. They are best hunters of leopards. They also were used for protecting the villages from wild animals. Nowadays these dogs are preferred by animal lovers for their beautiful and graceful exterior.

The first appearance of that dog was said to be in Afghanistan, that’s why the breed is called so. They come from the hound group. The males are usually about 26-28 inches high; the females are about 24-26 inches high. The weight of the male is about 60 pounds whereas the females weigh 50 pounds. An afghan hound dog may have many puppies in a single litter.
