The coat of the dog consists of the two different layers the one of which is soft and short and the other is longer and coarser. Thanks to that fact the dog endures low temperatures and even can live outside.

First the dogs were bred in Japan and they were mainly bred for hunting. They are also the dogs for fighting and guarding. The dog was trained to hunt a bear, a deer and a wild boar. The man who proposed to raise that breed was the Prefecture of the island of Honshu. A good akita breeder will be a breeder that other breeders recomend.
