Puppies are born with short and sparse hair and by the age of 6-8 weeks they are totally naked. The skin of these dogs is soft and silky; it can come in any color and pattern. The spots on the skin enlarge and darken with the age.

This breed originated as a spontaneous mutation in the early 1970’s and is still rare. The gene is recessive and only two parents without hair will produce the same puppy. These dogs have no hair, except for whiskers and eyebrows. American hairless terrier puppies should come from responsible breeders only.
