The ancestors of these dogs came from England where it was used in bull bating and fighting. As these bloody games were outlawed in 1835 the dogs were bred for guarding and to be pat dogs. They are very affectionate friends and they are kind with children.

This breed has a long history and centuries ago they used to be fighting dogs when the fight game was popular. As these bloody games were prohibited, the dogs were used as guard dogs and pet dogs.
