The Aussie is a relatively new breed of dog. The result of a specific breeding program in the western USA, the breed was developed between the 1960s and 1980s. This breed is a descendant from the standard Aussie. It was meant to be a compact version of the dog, which could be used more as a companion dog. Miniature australian shepherd dogs are smaller than standard Aussies, as seen in the pictures and photo albums.
