The australian shepherd responds well to training as a puppy. The average height of these dogs is 17-23 inches and they range in weight from 30-70 pounds. Their coat is of medium length and an arrangement of various colors such as blue merle, black, red merle, and red-all with or without tan points and/or white markings. This breed of dog is highly intelligent and active with the stamina that requires regular exercise and which enables them to be used for jobs such as herding, Search and Rescue and narcotics. They are dependable animals, even tempered, excellent with children and make loyal companions as well as watch dogs. The australian shepherd responds well to training as a puppy.
