The breed belongs to the group of Scendthounds and related breeds. They are smooth coated; their coat is very close lying and dense, tight and about 2 cm long. The coloring of the coat is black with minimal white markings ranging from light to fawn.

The other name of the breed is Ostreichische Tan Hound. These dogs are native to Austria and they are very stocky; the body is long and strong, the neck is strong and the chest is broad. The dogs weigh approximately 20 kg that is 44 pounds and are about 50-56 cm high (that is 20-22 inches). An austrian hound dog may be obtained in a rescue.
