The earliest suggestion of a breed similar to the Basenji can be traced back to Egyptian tombs and wall drawings of five thousand years ago. The Basenji is a highly intelligent breed used in Africa as a guide in forests to warn against dangerous animals lurking nearby. They are also used as pack-hunting dogs. It loves to play and makes a good pet, as long as it is handled regularly from an early age.
