The breed is very active and needs a lot of exercise. Like all hounds, it gets easily carried away by various scents, so the dogs should be kept an eye on. The breed is intelligent and is suited for a variety of activities such as agility, hunting, and bomb and narcotics detection. Some dogs of this breed are difficult to obedience train and house train, but with consistent and firm exercise, these dogs become well-behaved. Still, it’s not recommended to leave these hounds off the leash outdoors, because they may follow their nose and get lost. These dogs adore playing with children and make excellent pets for active and energetic people.

This is a compact sturdy breed that stands about 13-16 inches at the shoulder and weighs from 20 to 25 pounds. The dogs are shown in categories according to the height. The dogs that measure less than 13 inches and those over 13 inches are judged separately. As for the temperament, this breed is characterized as amiable and alert, showing no aggression or timidity.
