They have a strong hunting instinct, and should not be let off lead. Since it is in their nature to take and follow the scent, training can be a challenge. It is a good idea to use the dog’s hunting instincts at field trials. The owner of such a dog should make interaction interesting and educating for the pup to form and maintain close bonds with the pet. These dogs belong to the group of hounds. Sturdy little dogs, they are considered one of the smallest hunting breeds. The Roman times are sometimes called the approximate period when the breed was developed. The dogs were specially bred to kill the rabbit and hare. The breed is easily recognized by long pendant ears, large round eyes and gentle expression. These hounds vary a lot in height, 15 inches being the standard size. There is a great distinction in the coat color of the breed, although the most common color is black, tan and white. Acquire beagle information, photos of the show dogs, and a photo of the champions from clubs.
