View pictures of beagle dogs and a puppy photo when visiting a breeder. These sturdy little hounds are considered one of the smallest of the hunting breeds. They are rather compact and athletic; everything in their appearance is aimed at hunting small game. These hounds have excellent scenting abilities and can follow the game even by a cold trail. The hounds of this breed have short weather resistant coats. The hounds have some typical physical features, such as a long skull; low set, long, droop ears, large beautiful eyes, a muscular body, and curved tail. The name of the breed was probably derived from the French word “begueule,” which means a gape throat, and refers to the type of barking made by a pack of these hounds on the hunt. The modern breed was developed in the United States to have a larger body and balanced appearance. The dogs of this breed normally compete in one of two different height classes: the hounds that are 13 inch and under compete in the 13 inch class and the hounds that are over 13 inches but not more than 15 inches tall compete in the 15 inch class. Nowadays, these hounds still actively participate in hunting sports, as individuals, braces, and packs. View pictures of beagle dogs and a puppy photo when visiting a breeder.
