Nowadays, this breed is one of the most popular scent hounds because of its willingness to work, endurance, high energy level, and sweet disposition. These dogs make nice pets for active people and for children. Owning such a dog is a great commitment, because these hounds cannot be left on their own. They need lots of daily exercise and early obedience training to become good pets. These dogs enjoy tracking the game and following interesting scents; without enough mental stimulation they will become bored and destructive.

This organization was formed in the late 1800s by breed enthusiasts. The organization’s major object is to improve field qualities as well as type of the breed. The association also promotes responsible breeding and ownership of these dogs. There are several types of membership. Existing members of the organization vote to accept new members. Those who are interested in the breed are highly recommended to visit breed organizations in order to see dogs performing, talk to breeders and owners.
