It is not known for sure when the breed appeared, yet it is definitely a very old breed. Similar looking dogs were known in ancient Greece. These dogs became very popular in Britain, as they made good hunting companions and pets. British nobility favored these dogs for their excellent working abilities and friendly nature. These small hounds game the opportunity to follow them tracking the game on foot. The name of the breed is probably originated from “begele,” which stands for “small.” The breed club will offer beagle history information and pictures of the puppies.
