This is a medium-sized breed with a short coat. Males are usually large and stand about 14-16 inches high. Females are not higher than 15 inches. The breed is evaluated in two groups according to height: under 13 inches and over 13 inches. These dogs weigh from 20 to 25 pounds. These good-natured hounds generally get along with most other dogs. They are good watchdogs and wonderful companions, but poor guardians. As pets, they require plenty of space, social contact and physical activity. These compact and athletic dogs are relatively easy to keep.
