The bernese dog should begin training while they are yet young puppies.
The tail is medium in length and the hair is short, smooth, dense, and very fine on the head and ears. The Lucerne Hound always has close-lying hair. The body is longer than it is tall; the neck is muscular with slight dewlap.

The coats of the Bernese dogs are white with black spots or a black saddle, fawn marking above the eyes, on the cheeks, on the inside surface of the ears. Sometimes there can be a white spot on the chest. The bernese dog should begin training while they are yet young puppies.
