Cairn terrier grooming is relatively easy as any breeder will attest to and isn't commonly found in a rescue situation.
Actually these dogs do not shed and they do not need any special grooming. They need to be brushed every couple of days for a few minutes. They can be also hand stripped once a year at least because this procedure lets the new hair grow quicker.

The coat of the dog is hard and weather-resistant and double-coated with plenty of firm outer coat and short, soft, close furry undercoat. The dog needs trimming regularly, especially when the dog participates in the shows. In trimming the clipper and scissors are used.
