The coat is tight and rather short but thick with a dense undercoat in season; the hair is long on the neck, withers and back. The coloring of the coat can be p red ginger with pale buff markings on the shoulders and side of the muzzle; on underside there are paler shadings.

These dogs resemble very much Dingo dogs and have the following distinctive features; the dog has a straight back that is of medium length and a well developed chest and well tucked up belly. The neck of the dog is long and the head is wedge shaped. Most north carolina dog breeders have photos for exchanging with other breeders.
