The dog is naturally clean and makes an ideal pet that can thrive in most any climate. These are good companions, bright and alert. The dog is actually small though well balanced, lively, and an aristocratic toy dog with a distinctive Oriental expression.

These dogs are native to Japan and they are descendants of dogs that warmed the laps of Chinese aristocracy and kept court with the ladies of the Imperial Palace. The breed was introduced in August 9, 1977 and up to that time the breed was known and registered by the AKC as the Japanese Spaniel. The chin dogs aren't usually foung in a rescue situation.
