The Dachshund was most likely developed from the St. Hubert Hound in Germany about 300 years ago. However, there is Egyptian artwork that depicts similar dogs more than 1000 years ago. The breed name of this animal means “badger hound,” describing its original purpose. Most often the Dachshund was used to draw badgers from their den for the hunters.
