These dogs are wide and compact in appearance, with massive, broad head, stocky legs, and short tail. Their shorthaired coat comes in brown, tan, white to brindle and piebald colors. Black coat is not acceptable. The muzzle is short, with skin falling in dense folds. The nose is flat and black, and the eyes are distinctively large, dark and round, the cheeks are soft and wrinkled, and the upper lip is pendent. The ears are small and rose-shaped. The tail is short and carried low. These dogs usually measure 12-16 inches high at the withers and weigh 40-50 lbs. Life expectancy of this breed is 8-12 years.
