The borderlines between black and tan colors should be clearly defined. Black penciling on toes is allowed. The head of the animal should be deep, broadest between the ears. The cheek is narrow as the leanness of the head allows. The muzzle is rather long with almost parallel lines.

The coat of the hound is of clear coal-black, mahogany-red, yellowish, or tan colors and straight or slightly wavered, but not curly. It should be soft and shining, with longer hair on ears, on chest, under stomach. There shouldn’t be tan hairs mixed in the black, or black hairs mixed in light colors.
