German Shepherd Dog


A german Shepherd dog needs training for a puppy to reach it's full potential. The acclaimed father of the breed is Capt. Max von Stephanitz, who had long admired the qualities of this dog. He formed a society, (Verein fur deutsche Schaferhunde or SV) marking the beginning of a new era for the breed. The GS's popularity has diminished since World War II and is now one of the world’s most popular breeds. No other single breed is able to master the wide range of skills as GS’s. According to the breed standard, purebred dogs of this breed are strong, well muscled and full of life. They should give the impression of fitness and nimbleness. Body length of the breed slightly exceeds the shoulder height. Male dogs are very masculine and females are definitely feminine. Males should stand from 24 to 26 inches at the shoulders; females measure from 22 to 24 inches. Best examples of this breed have a noble and finely chiseled head. Eyes are almond shaped and as dark as possible. The expression on the muzzle should be intelligent and keen. A german Shepherd dog needs training for a puppy to reach it's full potential.
