The german large shepherd breed can be seen in most dog photo sites and possibly breeder and rescue sites. The history of the breed goes back to as early as the 7th Century A.D. The roots of the breed are in the mountain sheepdog of Germany. In 1974, Tina Barber set out to restore the breed to their former glory. There were strong and weak points in the breed so Tina Barber aimed at improving the breed and focused on large size, intelligence, good temperament, and sound hips. Actually, she crossed the breed with a Giant Malamute and changed her Kennel name to "Shiloh Shepherds" which is where the breed gets its name. The german large shepherd breed can be seen in most dog photo sites and possibly breeder and rescue sites.

Mixed dogs are generally healthier than purebreds, because their gene pool is more diverse. Thatís why breeders try to introduce new blood to the breed and create new breed varieties. Nevertheless, like all massive dogs, this variety of the breed is prone to hip and elbow dysplasia. Epilepsy, eczema, dwarfism, blood and digestive disorders occur in some bloodlines. The only way to avoid serious health problems in a purebred puppy is obtaining it from a reputable breeder that screens the breeding stock for all typical disorders and culls animals with defective genes. Itís necessary to ask for a health certificate of the puppy and both its parents. The german large shepherd breed can be seen in most dog photo sites and possibly breeder and rescue sites.
