When training your german shepherd dog, it is important to socialize the puppies with other dogs. These large and active dogs can be kept both outdoors and indoors. They are hardy enough to withstand cold, if kept in a special dog house. When kept indoors, these dogs should be walked for several hours daily to satisfy their exercise needs. Being very intelligent, this breed is a challenge; it enjoys strenuous activity combined with mental stimulation. Positive motivation works best with these dogs. These dogs often become difficult to manage for novice and incompetent owners who are usually too permissive or very strict. The earlier you start socializing a pup, the better.
