Prior to obtaining a dog of this breed, ask yourself questions like: why you need a dog; why you need particularly this breed; are you prepared to devote much time and care to the dog; who will care for the pet when you are away; and so forth. If you need a family companion, there is no need to buy a champion quality dog. Pet quality dogs from reputable breeders have the same working abilities and temperament. Pet quality dogs cannot participate in competitions because of minor conformation faults and should be spayed or neutered.

As the dog is very intelligent, it is easy to train; it should start at the earliest age, as soon as the dog appears in your house. Untrained dogs have a tendency to be difficult to handle and control. These dogs can be trained different tasks as they are very intelligent, eager to learn and very obedient. The dogs do well in sentry duty, police work, and tracking, obedience, search and rescue as well as make assistance dogs for the disabled.
