German Shorthaired Pointer Dogs

German shorthaired pointer dogs that are surrendered to rescues are not easy to adopt; still you can see their pictures on the rescues' websites. These hounds appeared in the United States in the 1880s. The breed received official AKC recognition in 1930. A Minnesota Club dedicated to the breed received parent status. Years later, there was established a separate organization, the Club of America. Since 1962, this club has been taking care of the welfare of the hounds. The breeders perfected the qualities of the ancestor of the modern hound by breeding it with Spanish and English breeds. The end result appeared to be a good retriever, pointer, and scent hound.
