This breed is believed to appear as a result of crossbreeding Russian sheepdogs and Tweed water spaniels in the end of the 19th century. Today, these dogs are used as sportsmen’s companions, gundogs, guide and service dogs and faithful family pets. They like human companionship and constant communication. These dogs are very active and need plenty of outdoor exercise, but can be kept indoors. They need weekly brushing and bathing. The breed is relatively healthy, but is prone to hip dysplasia, allergies, and eye defects. Life expectancy for these dogs is 10-12 years.
