These dogs are beautiful and well balanced, with a medium-length caramel to dark yellow colored coat. Their head is broad, with a wide tapering muzzle and scissors bite. The body and limbs are strong and muscular; the tail is long and straight. These dogs make lovable, gentle, eager to please, well-mannered pets with a great charm. They are very active in any age and excel in Obedience competitions, field trials, Agility and Conformation. Such animals have no guarding instincts and are unlikely to attack.

Through the years, breeders have bred for different qualities; it cannot but result in the conformation of the dogs. Two purebred dogs may look very different, because there exist several types or lines designed for various tasks. Variations in coat color and texture may be quite noticeable. The AKC standard for the dogs’ height is 21 1/2 - 22 1/2 inches at the shoulder for females and 23-24 inches for males. An inch either way is accepted, so the smallest dogs stand about 20 ½ inches at the withers, while the largest ones reach the height of 25 inches.
