Most lines are prone to a number of hereditary problems and it’s a duty of every trustworthy breeder to avoid them in a litter by careful selection and screening both perspective parents for typical disorders. Hip dysplasia or poor development of the hip joint is an inherited developmental disease in young dogs of many large breeds. This disorder is particularly serious in this breed, because it’s very active and slow to mature. It’s possible to diagnose hip dysplasia by x-ray, but there is no effective cure found yet. If you have a show quality dog and want to have puppies from it, you’d better not mate the dog, if you have no experience. Only experienced breeders know how to plan the litter and what tests should be performed on both parents. Even show quality dogs may have defective genes that could develop in their offspring. If the dog is registered, it doesn’t mean that it can be bred.
