This breed of dogs was developed in Great Britain in the 19th century for hunting waterfowl and small game. They are very adaptable, willing to please, active and trainable. Being very intelligent, they are widely used as guides for disabled people. Males are 23-24 inches high at the withers and weigh from 65 to 75 pounds; females are 21-22 inches tall and weigh from 55 to 65 pounds. This breed has a normal canine structure and requires neither surgical alteration, nor complicated grooming.
