When choosing a show quality puppy, a buyer should pay attention not only to health and temperament, but also to a number of faults. Show quality dogs should not be timid and nervous and should not display quarrelsomeness or hostility towards other dogs and people. Special attention should be payed to the main beauty of the breed – its coat. Excessive coat length, open coats, limp and soft coats, white markings, black or other off-color hair are disqualifying faults. Misalignment of teeth, gaps between teeth, a level bite and sloping backline are also undesirable in these dogs. To participare in shows, a dog should fit the AKC breed standard perfectly.
