If the breeder claims that all dogs in the kennel are free from all possible disorders, don’t trust him/her, because all purebreds are prone to hereditary defects due to limited gene pool. Perfect show dogs don’t develop these defects, but they may be transmitted to the offspring. When buying a purebred puppy of this breed, look for the OFA, CERF, and SAS screening. It’s also recommended to check the health certificates of the puppy’s parents, as some inherited disorders can develop later in life. Also, ask the breeder about cases of Von Willebrand's, epilepsy, allergies, and skin disorders in the bloodline. A florida golden retriever club will have information on rescues and photos available.
