A breeder who seems to get rid of a puppy should not be trusted. Sometimes, a breeder even refuses to sell a puppy to an irresponsible and unknowledgeable person, because such owners are unable to provide the dog with necessary care and training. Usually, a breeder doesn’t allow to choose a pup the buyer thinks will suit the family, but picks a puppy for the buyer. Serious breeders can be trusted with the choice of a puppy, because they spend much time with the litter and observe individual temperaments of the pups.

This breed was registered by the American Kennel Club in 1925 and since that time the standard has not changed. The breed is large and active; these dogs are excellent in various competitions and become champions in obedience, agility, conformation and field trials. The characteristic feature of the breed is its dense long coat, which should be colored from light yellow to dark red. Males are 23-24 inches high and weigh 65-80 pounds; females are 21.5-22.5 inches high and weigh 55-65 pounds; deviations of more than one inch in height are disqualified.
