Today the breed is very versatile and can be used as service and therapy dogs, assisting handicapped persons in leading normal lives. They make excellent family pets, but are rather difficult to keep, especially for the novice owners and families with small children. The main disadvantage of the breed is that it needs plenty of exercise and room and cannot be kept in an apartment only.
