Gordon setter dogs are boistrous as puppies but tend to be very dignified once they have outgrown the puppy stage.
Puppies can be over demonstrative and boisterous, but later develop dignity and understanding of the master’s needs. It’s impossible for the breed to be just a kennel hound. To develop intelligence and cooperation they have to live in constant association with the master and be in the center of attention.

These are very energetic animals that are polite to strangers after a proper introduction, but stay formal and reserved. They are very intelligent and are used mainly as bird hunters.
