Great Pyrenees - Picture
The Great Pyrenees originated in the Pyrenees Mountains of France. They were developed for guarding flocks in the rugged mountains. They are considered the noble relative of the St. Bernard and the Newfoundland. Dating back to approximately 3000 BC, the Great Pyrenees is considered the oldest natural breed in history. Throughout history Great Pyrenees have all served mankind by being cart pullers, rescue dogs, sled dogs, pack dogs and a family companion and defender.
Also called Pyrenean Mountain Dog.
