The most widely spread commercial species of ducks is the Pekin breed. Pekins reach market weight early and are fairly good egg producers.

Though these birds have many predators, including humans, they are common throughout the world. These birds have a high reproductive rate and mature very quickly. They are perfectly adapted to aquatic lifestyle. They exploit a variety of food sources of lakes, ponds, marshes and small rivers. A wide flat beak of a duck is suited for dredging. The common food of these birds is aquatic plants, small fish and amphibians, larvae, worms, and mollusks. Species that don’t have a flat beak are able to dive deep underwater for food.
