The Karelo-Finnish Laika is very similar to the Finnish Spitz, and probably share the same ancestry. The breed is unknown outside of Russia, but it is very popular among local hunters. Karelo-Finnish Laikas are very sensitive and excitable.

Karelo-Finnish Laikas stand 15-19 inches high at the withers and weigh 25-30 pounds. They have a very dense stand-off coat that occurs in various shades of fawn. Karelo-Finnish Laikas are good at hunting squirrel, raccoon, grouse, duck and entering fox, marten and raccoon burrows. When you buy dogs, don't trust their photos at the kennels.
