This breed appeared in Germany in the middle of the 19th century. These lion-like creatures were very popular among the European nobility and royalty. By the end of World War II the breed was almost destroyed, but devoted fanciers reestablished it. Leonberger breeders provide registration for all their dogs and puppies.
