These dogs were developed for their working ability. In appearance, they are stocky, rugged dogs. Their heavy coat tends to be longer than that of the hounds but still basically short. The coat is smooth or rough with a soft fine undercoat. Colors include, yellow, brindle, black, brindle and black, often with white points.
