The Appenzell Mountain Dog is the rarest of the four ancient Swiss mountain dogs. A very active breed, they are accustomed to working continuously. They are not adapted to living indoors or in a kennel. A surefooted dog, it was used to pull carts of milk and cheese to the merchants in towns.
