Originating in the mountainous terrain between the Black and Caspian Seas called Caucasia, the Caucasian Shepherd was primarily used as a flock guardian. In the late 1960s, this breed was employed as a border patrol dog primarily along the Berlin Wall. When not properly trained and socialized, the Caucasian Shepherd can demonstrate fierce and uncontrollable tendencies.
Also called Caucasian Ovtcharka.
