The English Coonhound's history is said to be the history of all coonhounds. All of the UKC breeds have a common ancestry in the English Coonhound with the omission of the Plott Hound. The English Coonhound was originally used to hunt fox. Americans, through careful breeding practices, adapted the English Coonhound to hunt raccoon, opossum, cougar and various bear species.
Also called Redtick Coonhound.
