This breed was selectively bred in the nineteenth century using English Terriers. Crosses using the Fox Terrier, the Welsh Terrier and the Old English Terrier believed to have contributed to the German Hunting Terrier. This terrier is often considered one of the best terriers at unearthing badger and fox. They also hunt for hare and boar in small packs. This breed is an outdoor dog and will be very nervous indoors.
