The Icelandic Sheepdog came with Vikings to Iceland in the ninth century. Some authorities suggest that initially there were several types of Icelandic dogs, varying from a dog similar to the Norwegian Buhund to one similar to the Greenland Husky, but the most dominant type of the earlier days is prevailing in the modern Icelandic Sheepdog and there has only been one type for quite some time. The Icelandic Sheepdog is adaptable to family life.
