The Irish Terrier originally comes from Country Cork, Ireland, it's probably one of the oldest terrier breeds. The Irish Terrier became very popular in England during the late 1800's. It is a feisty hunter and exterminator of den animals, otter, and water rats. The breed has also been used as a retriever and wartime messenger. Though the terrier may be fierce when the circumstances call for it, it is easily trained and makes a gentle pet.
