This breed originated in Bulgaria and is a working dog. The Karakachan people are nomad livestock breeders and the Karakachan dogs are accustomed to working in all types of terrain and weather conditions. It is said that two dogs can easily handle 300 sheep even with the large number of predators in the mountainous country.
