The Spitz dogs originating in the Scandinavian countries were the first group of dogs in Northern Europe. It is also believed that the first dogs man used were Spitz dogs. The oldest skeletons of dogs found in Denmark have obvious resemblances to the Nordic Spitz of today. Some of these characteristics include a unique shaped head and a squarely built body.
