This breed was developed in England as a small ratting dog. Later, they were also used to sniff out foxes that had gone into the hole. This small terrier could get in and out of a burrow quite easily. As they were bred to hunt in packs, Norwich Terriers tend to be more sociable than many other terriers. Today, they serve primarily as companion dogs, but are still considered ratting dogs.
