These dogs are the largest toy breed in the world. Many people attribute them to the Mastiff ancestry, but they have nothing to do with any Mastiff-type dog. They have short muzzles and short limbs, and the coat occurs in different shades of fawn, the muzzle wearing a black mask.

The breed originated in China, and by the 14th century, there were three distinct breeds, which directly contributed to the formation of this one: the Pekingese, the Japanese, and one more similar species. Most probably, these dogs arrived in Europe via the Dutch East India Company. Pugs make cute puppies; a dog still looks cute.
